she is beautiful, (of course we are a bit biased).Mom and daughter are doing well…and all of our thanks to Curtis, Jan and the staff at the barn for their loving care of our horses!!!

  • Grace & I

goodpaulagoodpaula2I came to see Grace at your farm in August of “08, Curtis had been looking for a “dream horse” for me and thought she might be the one! She is! One look at her and I was in Love! She has the sweetest face and the tips of her ears look like they were  frostbitten when she was a baby. They are rounded off and it makes her look like a teddy bear! I rode her several times on the trails at your farm before bringing her home. She does great on the trails and seems to enjoy going camping and really LOVES to play in the water! We have been to Myrtle Beach, SC, camping on the ocean for the American Heart Association Annual Jack Monroe Beach Ride! There was almost 1000 horses there this year! She didn’t mind all the noise and heavy equipment and planes taking off and landing even. Every where we go people comment on how beautiful she is! But I’m so glad she’s beautiful on the inside! She is very “talkative” and loves attention! She is truly “my dream horse”! Thanks Ya’ll!      Paula Wilde

  • Sammy’s Blog: The March Farm Report

march-blogHello Everyone! For those of you who don’t know me, I am Sammuel Addams. Not only am I the Farm Boss, but I do the monthly farm report to keep everyone up to date on what’s happening at the Stables. This month, as you can see, I am the Farm Leprechaun.  This month has been especially good to us. We are pleased to announce the birth of our first show baby of the season. Our mare Power Play & our Champoinship Stallion, “A Matter of Perfection” are the proud parents of a stud! Way to go Power Play! Another Champ in the making! We have had some really great weather this month & are looking forward to seeing some more of that! I am especially looking forward to this Spring & Summer. I am the center of attention here & the more people that stop by, the more snacks I get…Sorry, I lose focus when I start thinking “snacks”! I hope everyone will stop by & see me soon! I have been working really hard lately to perfect my new skills. I have recently taken up the art of jumping over things & man am I good! I am handicapped & the Doctors told my Mom & Dad that I would probably never be able to run or jump thanks to this bum leg. I proved them wrong! I hope you will all stop by & ask for Sammi The Jumping Pony! I love to put on a show for anyone, anytime! I hope everyone enjoyed the report for March! See you next month!

  • A Perfect Match

tinytim                    We found Curtis, Owner of Step Above Stables, to be very knowledgeable and professional.  It was a difficult decision to purchase a horse that we did not physically see or ride.  Curtis is a man of his word and a true Southern Gentleman.  We strongly recommend A Step Above Stables to anyone looking for people who truly care about making a good match of a person and horse!  Also wanted to thank Charlie for the excellent care he took when bringing Tiny Tim to us in Massachusetts!

    Thank you~

  • Nature’s Weatherman…

evidencefood2Hello again! We are happy to report that our Beavers have been BUSY! Since last post, they have been busy chewing down trees, & stocking up on their dinner! They have stockpiled  bamboo & placed it under water in front of the entrance to their den to eat later.dam2

The dam has risen quite a bit in a week’s time. You can see each day all of the fresh greenery & new sticks they have added. It is apparent that they know when rain is coming ! Neat! We are so blessed to have these masterful creatures in our back yard! Thank You Kelly for sharing!

  • Thank You…

Thank You to everyone at A Step Above Stables for a wonderful experience. Our son loved his ride on Tiny Tim. We come to the Blue Ridge area every year from Cape Coral, but we have never had the pleasure of visiting your stable. Everyone was so kind.  That day was the highlight of our trip. We can’t wait to come back!

  • A Backyard Beaver Dam

dam11dam31 Kelly has the great fortune to have a nice little creek running past her back yard. Her back yard in the spring & summer are a non-stop show of back yard birding & wildlife of all kinds. This winter brought a really cool suprise. A huge beaver dam. Each day Kelly walks down to see how it has changed. It is amazing to see how they have built it up over time. This morning the dam was decorated with icicles. How cool! Who would have thought a beaver dam in your backyard. If we ever get lucky enough to spot the master behind this artwork, we will post the pictures right away! Check back to see the changes in the dam as the seasons change.
